Course Tutor - Chloe Divers

Chloe Divers is currently a PT Pupil Support and Business Education Teacher for North Lanarkshire Council. Chloe is a marker for SQA in both Business Management and Administration & IT. She also has experience in teaching Skills for Work courses in order to provide employability skills and offer alternative pathways to pupils. Before Teaching Chloe had a successful career in Management in the private sector and she uses these transferable skills both within her role of Guidance and her day to day teaching in the classroom.

An Introduction to Pastoral Care/Pupil Support/Guidance

A practical and informative course to discuss and examine the current perspectives on the role of Guidance/Pastoral Care in schools.  The Guidance teacher is a unique role within a School tasked with working with Colleagues, Pupils, Parents and external agencies this course aims to give an insight to the paperwork involved and expectations of outcomes. Alongside exploring the role of the specialist principal teacher of Guidance/Pastoral Care as leader and manager. This course is aimed at teachers who are interested in the role of Guidance or existing Guidance teachers who would like to refresh and discuss current practice within schools.

The course will focus on:

  • Examining pupil support and raising achievement and attainment for all
  • Closing the gap (SIMD)
  • Behaviour v Support
  • Reflecting on the importance of a whole school approach to pupil support 
  • Exploring the role of specialist principal teachers of pupil support
  • Consider relevant external agencies (Social work, Psychological services, Reporters Department, NHS), their roles and responsibilities and examine the paperwork involved
  • Reflecting on the key leadership and management skills required for the role
  • Leading & managing the Health & Wellbeing curriculum
  • Time Management
  • Chairing meetings effectively
